Yesterday morning, as we sat having breakfast, a Pileated Woodpecker landed on the railing of our deck, just a few feet in front of us. It look huge…for a moment I thought it was the road runner we’d seen awhile ago. But its bright red crest gave it away. It flew away just a second or two after it landed, but it was there long enough to impress us with its size. Here’s a link to information and photos.

I’m going to fantasize that it was an Ivory-billed Woodpecker because you’re in Arkansas and that was where the only one may have actually been seen in 2004. Wouldn’t that be cool?
