Pileated Woodpecker

Yesterday morning, as we sat having breakfast, a Pileated Woodpecker landed on the railing of our deck, just a few feet in front of us.  It look huge…for a moment I thought it was the road runner we’d seen awhile ago.  But its bright red crest gave it away.  It flew away just a second or two after it landed, but it was there long enough to impress us with its size.  Here’s a link to information and photos.

  1. Robin, Janine mentioned that, too! That would be cool in the extreme!

I’m going to fantasize that it was an Ivory-billed Woodpecker because you’re in Arkansas and that was where the only one may have actually been seen in 2004. Wouldn’t that be cool?
