Decklife

Aside from a few fierce storms that could have wrecked the center of the earth and beyond, the weather here has been rather nice thus far. But yesterday, the thermometer reached levels that would have prompted my father to say the temperatures were “hotter’n’ hades.” When we left the house at around 1:00 p.m., the thermometer in the car registered outside temperature of 91.  But later, when we exited the grocery store with $75 worth of odds and ends that were not intended when we entered, the car claimed it was 72 degrees; it lied…if anything, the temperature had risen.

When we got back to the house, it was apparent the temperatures had risen.  Inside, the normal coolness had undergone a transmogrification…warm and humid, though not uncomfortable, had taken over.

A little later, though, I decided to sit on the back deck for awhile while my favorite wife watched something unspeakably bad on television.  The temperatures had dropped dramatically, into the comfort zone!  It felt so nice to sit there in my director’s chair, watching the hawks soar in the distance and listening to the distant cows expressing themselves with loud “maaaahhh.”

If my wife would join me outside, on the deck, she would realize the television program is no comparison to the real world.  I don’t know the temperatures yesterday afternoon, but I know they were comfortable, pleasant, wonderful!

Yesterday, at least, our decision on where to live was affirmed.

Sounds like you’ve found a lovely hawk-filled and “maaaahhh” sounding spot to relax and enjoy the beauty of the planet. Whenever we’re out and about in towns and cities, we notice a lot of people are staring at their smart phones and not looking at the world.

I wish you would tell me what you think about this post...
