Wood

Excellent day today, so far, despite an unauspicious start.

It started out by me arriving an hour early for an 8:00 a.m. breakfast meeting with a group of guys who do woodworking in a  neighbor’s shop.  My favorite wife said she thought he said 8:00 a.m.; I said not, I distinctly remember he said to meet them at 7:00 a.m.  I sat alone in the back room of Debra’s Good Eats Cafe until my neighbor and three of his friends showed up. We chatted for a while, had breakfast, then headed back to my neighbor’s place.

If I have ever seen a better-equipped wood shop, I can’t imagine where it could have been.  This guy has a couple of bench sanders, a chop saw, a band saw, a scroll saw, a table saw, a radial arm saw, a drill press, a planer, a jointer, multiple routers and a superb routing table, an incredible assortment of clamps, countless hand tools, wood-turning knives…there isn’t enough space in my brain to remember all of his tools.

A few days earlier, when he learned that I have an interest in, but very little experience with, working with wood, he invited me to join his group of woodworkers.   Today, he offered to let me come down any time to use his tools; he said he’d gladly teach me how to use them and give me advice.

Henceforth, I will join the guys for breakfast regularly and will visit with him from time to time to take advantage of his generosity.  Very nice guy!

  1. Gracias, GNJ. I am just now becoming familiar with those words.

I don’t understand any of those words you said in the third paragraph… Just saying… But congrats on the new hobby! I think it will suit you!

I wish you would tell me what you think about this post...
