I read recently about how to recognize cues that one is under stress. The idea is to “check in on” one’s body to see if there are tightened muscles, clenched fists, furrowed brow, etc. When one identifies those cues, it’s just a matter of affirmatively unclenching and loosening and unfurrowing, and freeing the mind from the triggers that caused the physical symptoms of stress. It’s as simple as performing brain surgery while driving between trucks on a narrow highway in the dark behind a mud-caked windshield. But I’ll try.

Check! All of the above mentioned, guilt as charged. I do think shouting was omitted from this list, which is usually the “last call” in the stress zone. Refocusing is essential to bring it down a notch, or two, but at least in my case not a guarantee the I will be stress free. It certainly does help to be aware of the triggers, though!
