January 1: Thoughts for the Day

Today is the beginning of a new year.  This day is no more magical than any other day, but it is a day, our traditions tell us, that begins a new chapter.

January 1 is a day in which I can, if I choose, look inward.  If I look closely enough, I might see unexpected beauty. Let this be a day during which I seize that opportunity.

Already, I see the beauty around me.  I am fortunate that there is so much goodness in the people I love.  Today, my beautiful wife and I are beginning a new year together.  That is as good as it gets.

Yes, John. You and Janine begin the next chapter together…that “is” as good as it gets! Wishing the two of you a wondrous journey!! 🙂

  2. Thank you, Robin! I love our reliance on a Roman god to help us begin our year; it just seems fitting these days!

Happy New Year to you and your beautiful wife. Today I learned (again) that the new year is a civil event, not marked by any natural seasonal marker. January was named for the Roman god Janus, the god of doorways and beginnings.

I wish you would tell me what you think about this post...
