No Light

Politics is becoming an increasingly vile, disreputable, dangerous business.  I watch political candidates and their surrogates attack one another with no regard to core issues.  They attack with the sole purpose of drawing blood, hurting their opponents, tricking their constituents into believing what they say.

I believe very strongly that every political aspirant should be required to answer, completely and without opportunity to dance, questions about the key social, political, military, and economic issues of the day.  They should NOT be allowed to attack their opponents; only to state their positions.  Then, the PEOPLE can dispute and debate and argue.  There should be no political parties; political parties are just as dangerous as organized religion.  Maybe more so.

These words, of course, are borne of rage, anger, and disgust.  I may be slightly different tomorrow.  But not much.

As a country, we should come to some consensus as to what we believe, what we are all about.  I would be willing to accept a consensus that conflicts with my beliefs.  If that consensus were sufficiently repugnant to me, I would be willing to leave and make my home in another country.  I’m just so, so, so tired of political conversations that are all heat and no light.
