Advanced Reality Test…One, Two…

My wife and I are on an alternating insomnia schedule.  One night, she’ll awaken at 2 or 3 and be up for an hour or two, the next night I’ll get up at 3 or 4 and be up for the rest of the day.  It’s my turn.  I was up just before 4 today. Fortunately, because I didn’t do the dishes after making dinner last night, I had something to do; the kitchen now looks like reasonably tidy people live here.

I would watch television, except the idea of watching television at 4:30 in the morning …whether Netflix or broadcast TV or recorded programs I enjoy…has no appeal.  So, instead, I babble on with my fingers doing the talking.  I returned to a piece I started writing a week or two ago, in the hope I would be in the right state of mind to add to it or, at least, improve what I’ve already written, but the right state of mind eludes me.

Perhaps peyote would do the trick. I sometimes wish I’d been the rebellious, adventurous young man I never became, experimenting with mind-altering substances.  I wonder what the experience of using peyote or LSD or other such stuff would have been like.  I went only so far as to try marijuana a few…very few…times.  If the stories I’ve read about LSD trips are remotely close to factual, my experiences don’t compare.  However, the first time was a bizarre experience…after finally feeling the sought-after “high,” I was confused and did not know whether I had already made the trip back to San Antonio from Austin or whether I was still in Austin.  That’s another story.

Today, we’re planning to visit the new Artisans’ Market at Grove Park in Hot Springs Village, then zip over to Little Rock to try to find some items we cannot find locally.  But, first, we have to confirm the stores are open on Sunday.  If not, we’ll do it another time.  I hope they’re open, though; I’d like the opportunity to log three more beers at The Flying Saucer (and let my favorite wife drive back).

But now, I’ll return to the kitchen and make my 5:00 a.m. cup of coffee, inasmuch as my 4:05 a.m. cup has long since disappeared.
