Saying Goodbye to Mike

Today, we will remove his corpse.  We will take it to a special collection site, where we will have one last look at the body that has shared our home for years and years.  I don’t know quite what to expect…will it be a dignified transfer, or will the collectors have grown jaded after having seen so many more like him, broken and disjointed and lifeless?

We would have removed Mike’s body before now, but we had to keep it in our garage, in case we had to produce evidence of his death to the insurance company.  They tried to tell us he wasn’t worth as much as we claimed; well, he was worth even more than we claimed…he was worth more to us.  We haven’t seen the insurance money yet, but we’ve been assured it is coming.  At this point, we just want the corpse gone…we want to go on with our lives without Mike.

So, in a while, we will drag his dead carcass to the car, throw it in the trunk, and haul it to the special site, the place reserved for unwanted bodies that don’t belong anyplace else.  The body of Mike the microwave, crushed by careless furniture movers, will finally leave us. Today, we get on with our lives without Mike’s body in the garage. We will say goodbye to Mike.  He served us well, but now it’s time for his body to be carved up so that his body parts can be put to other uses.
