Missing Funerals

The car rental had been confirmed and my plans were made, but plans change.  I will not drive to Corpus Christi tomorrow to attend the funeral of an old friend on Friday morning.  Instead, I will stay in Dallas so I can see my cardiologist on Friday.  His office called to say my stress echo was “abnormal” and the doctor wants to discuss it with me.  The nurse who called me said it might simply be an artifact of my bypass surgery eight years ago, but the doctor believes it warrants a conversation.

So, I will miss the funeral of my friend. I justify the decision to follow the doctor’s advice by telling myself it might be the perfect opportunity to miss my own funeral, as well.

Keep us posted, John. I know how much you wanted to be there for your friend’s funeral, but our own crazy living bodies demand attention. Please keep us posted, and sending you best wishes for a non-alarming conversation with your doc.

Thanks, Joyce and Trish. I’m confident it’s nothing, but feel like I need to confirm. I hate that I’m missing my friend’s funeral, but it’s the best thing to do now.
