Look closely at the least impressive flowers and you will see magic on a stem. What does it take to remind ourselves of the exceptional beauty all around us? I think it takes just this: pay attention and think about what is before us. That, alone, will give us the opportunities we too often fail to take.

I love flowers; I buy them where ever I can find them cheap, and when I can’t find them cheap, then a couple of small elephant ears cut from my garden will do the trick. It’s really not a high price to pay for a dozen tulips or an assortment of carnations, because they add so much to a room — the stuff of small mercies!
