I remember how I felt as a young man when I realized a young woman in whom I had a romantic interest had no interest in me. It felt like a kick to the gut; it hurt somewhere deep inside in a place that probably has since disappeared. But the memory is clear and visceral. I will write about the experience when it no longer feels as raw. I’ll give it another five or ten more years.
